61 degrees...like for real
So we had the chance to go to the Australian Open on Tuesday. It was fantastic! The unfortunate part about the whole day was that it was the hottest day in the history of me. I have never felt such extreme heat, except for when I am bending over a hot oven to get something out. The recorded temp in Melbourne that day was 41 degrees. In the shade that is. I then read in the paper that the highest temperature reading on the court that day was 61 degrees! No word of a lie. We got there at about noon time and when we were watching our first match at an outdoor court we found out that they were postponing all games that were to start after this time. So the poor players had to finish their games in that heat. We could only stand being thier in the open sun cooking for about an hour, so we peeled our sweaty butts off the chairs(which felt like stove top burners...OUCH!) and went and sat in the shade for awhile. All play was still going on in the arenas so we decided to go early to the Martina Hingis game. With our grounds pass we had limited access to one of the arenas, but weren' t aloud in the other main spot. We got there about 2 and a half hours early and didn't get in until after the game started. Everyone else apparently had the same idea and were there lined up to. And for every person that left, one person got in. It was brutal! We had to stand outside for over half of that too(yes, in the 41 degree heat and unfortunatley it wasn't shaded so it was probably about 50!). Once we were inside it was well worth it. We saw Hingis play, we saw James Blake defeat Carlos Moya and then another night time match between Australian, Sam Stosur and a Czech girl. It was an awesome day despite the heat and we are going back this weekend. I am crossing my fingers we can see Andy Roddick or Roger Federer! I can't wait!
