Surfing mission....success!

I just got back from Surfcamp. It was so much fun. We got back into Sydney last night and all partied at Scubar(all us 'campers' and the instructors). It was a great time. This morning(Friday) Shannon and were just packing up and getting ready to go find a train to Newcastle and all the instructor guys came back to our hostel, so Dan, one of the instructors, offered to drive us almost all the way to Newcastle in his VW van. It was a hoot. He is hilarious, and it was heaps more entertaining than taking the boring train. So we had a fun drive here and then landed in this beautiful, yet small, city. Newcastle seems like a pretty cool place to set up shop. Its a small beachy city and thats it. It seems really easy to get around, walking and free city transit, but the town centre seems smaller than Fredericton. The beach is amazing though, nicest we've seen yet really. They import sand out of Newcastle to Hawaii. Pretty cool little fact. Its also the 2nd oldest city in Australia so there are some historical buildings and all that jazz. Should be an interesting little spot to spend some time. Tomorrow we are looking for a place to live then the next step will be to find a job. There are tons of cafes, pubs and shops so it shouldn't be too bad.
So Surfcamp...what a blast despite the shitty ass weather. It was cold and dreary and rainy most of the time but nonetheless super! Shannon and I had stored all our stuff except for a little backpack for the week so all we had were shorts, tees and one pair of jeans and a hoody each...and no shoes, only 'thongs'. It was freeeeeeeeezing too, especially at night so we were pretty happy to get our stuff today and find out that the weather is going up to 29 degrees this weekend(it was 23 today). I am sure we both had a little hum to us after wearing the same clothes all week! When we weren't wearing that, we were suiting up in cold wet wetsuits to surf for 2 hours, twice a day, and thats when we were the warmest! Here are some pics of me looking like a pro surfer...
Well, I can't figure out how to get more than one pic on my blog but I have a whole bunch that don't look quite as goofy. I think that one was from the 2nd day. The first day I pretty much just learned how to get up and it didn't happen all that often. The 2nd and 3rd days were more practise and sometimes being successful and sometimes just having no luck at all, and the last day, especially the afternoon session I surfed almost every wave I went for. I definitely have surf stoke now, as I knew I would, and am going to work on finding myself a used board. It should be interesting. Its summer here now, well as of a couple weeks from now, so I shouldn't need a wetsuit. Sounds good to me, it gave me some serious chafing! I am going to work on putting some pics up on this photobucket thing, and if I am successful I will post again with my password for ya'll to see!
Cheers for now.
