Marcy Downunder

This site is for my friends and family to read about my adventures downunder(not to make freaky blog friends). Shannon and I are travelling Australia and some surrounding countries this fall/winter/spring. We leave October 21st! and have no idea when we are coming back. I am not known for calling and emailing peoople, so I will try to do better with postings! Hope you all find this interesting, at least at times, and entertaining always.

Update!

Hi Everybody! I just want to let everyone know that I am always thinking about people at home and wondering how everyone is and missing you all. I am constantly seeing things and doing things and commenting on how much someone at home would love it(Jaime and Erin, you two especially)!
Anyway, since we've arrived in Sydney we have seen a lot. Our first day of sightseeing we walked down through the Royal Botanical Gardens and down to the Opera House. The view there is incredible and really takes your breath away. We are taking a ferry out to Manly Beach tomorrow and coming back in at night to see the harhour lit up. I can't wait. That night we were pooped! The next day was more walking. We walked down to Darling Harbour and around that area and an area called the rocks which is a neat little old part of town between the bridge and the opera house. Darling Harbour is another amazing part of the harbour. There is so much here just to see just by walking around here. The Sushi here is so yummy and we eat a lot of it! Its so cheap to. We live by Chinatown here in Sydney(not that we live here) and I sometimes we wonder if we are just living in China altogether. There not nearly many white people as other nationalities it seems. We met up with Eric yesterday, my friend from camp! It was so nice to see a familiar face over here and we are also going out to the beach and the Olympic park tomorrow. Should be fun!
Yesterday Shannon and I moved from Sydney Central hostel to one called Footprints. Its really nice but we got a really good deal for 4 nights there(under $100). Anyway, we had just come back from cooking dinner and there were 2 huge big fat cockroaches on the wall!!!!! GROSS! So trying to remain calm Shannon and I went to the front desk to tell them. They were supposed to send someone up to take care of it for us but they never showed. So when the Korean girls that are staying in our rooms got back they killed them!!! It was really funny and its so common here that I guess we just have to accept it. We also may have to accept the fist sized hairy spiders that come into your houses when it rains!!! I don't think I will take that quite as well if it ever happens.
Later that night Shannon and I went and met a group of people for a pub night that was organized through SWAP. In true Aussie fashion we drank...a lot...having to emphasize the fact that Canadians can drink and wont wimp out on a few shots a few too many times. We saw eachother home and took good care of each other though! We had a great time and people here just love our 'accents' although we are mistaken for Americans too often.
Anyway, I am out. I probably wont post again until I get back from SURFCAMP!! Its from Monday to thursday and I will finally become the surfer that I have always pretended to be!
Cheers
