Marcy Downunder

This site is for my friends and family to read about my adventures downunder(not to make freaky blog friends). Shannon and I are travelling Australia and some surrounding countries this fall/winter/spring. We leave October 21st! and have no idea when we are coming back. I am not known for calling and emailing peoople, so I will try to do better with postings! Hope you all find this interesting, at least at times, and entertaining always.

Our exciting lives

Here are some ways that Shannon and I have been entertaining ourselves in our current situation which is a serious lack of funds. I am lieing if I say we don't have money, but we are trying not to spend the money we want to travel with at the end of the trip, and unfortunately, thats what we have been dipping into.
Lots of walks-its good though, our guts and asses can stay in Melbourne. There are so many new and pretty places to walk here though, the river banks, the parks and gardens, a lot of really cool streets lined with cafes and shops.
The market-we go frequently and take our time buying all of our fresh vegs and fruits
Reading-we always have a book on the go. If we were in Newcastle we would be reading on the beach, but...we aren' t in Newcastle.
Reading leads to...Napping. I love my naps these days.
Drinking cask wine-its cheap and it tastes terrible, but its always a good time
Drinking coffee-I found a Starbucks where I can actually get an iced coffee. The problem is, iced coffee in Australia is like a milkshake. Its a shot of espresso and coffee syrup poured over icecream, topped with milk and then whipped cream. They are to die for, but Starbucks version(which is really just coffee on ice) is a little better for me!
Internet-I am really liking having computers where I live. Being bored means I will at least keep in touch better.
Going to job interviews-I think in the past week we have spent about 20 hours in job/agency interviews. They all make you do the same thing, stupid computers tests, repetative questions. I hope the last of it is tomorrow, but I have to get the job first!
Hanging out with our cool roomies- In our room there are 2 other girls, one is British and one, Scottish. They are great. We were going to look for a place closer to our prospective jobs, but we like the girls we are living with too much. Emily will most likely be here the whole time we are, but Carys, the Scot, is leaving in 2 weeks.
Australian open next weekend, Big day out the weekend after that, we are joining a pool...things are looking up!

The last 2 days that we spent in Newcastle we went with Greg and his family to Tea Gardens. Its a resort/tourist/cottage area near Nelson's Bay and it was so nice. We were out with his parents on their boat and we must have seen about 20 dolphins! Ang, you would have loved it. There were 3 big groups of dolphins and they were all just swimming around the boats. If you are a tourist there(not that I wasn' t a tourist), you can pay up to $100 dollars to go on the dolphin watching cruises but we got to go anyway, without the tour group. We spent the day on the boat, having champagne and strawberries, cheese and crackers without the annoying kids running around! I took a lot of pics, but I don't know how well they turned out. After the dolphins we went docked and went into the town of Nelson's Bay because Greg's mom had to buy a tube so 'the girls could go tubing'! She is so sweet. We went tubing but as they say, she had to buy a chube so we could go choobing.
