Bye Bye Melbourne
We have made some plans for what we are doing after Melbourne, finally! We had just been poking away at our little job, having a great social life on weekends and doing whatever over the past little while and then the other day, it just kind of hit us in the face that we have to get a move on! We only have 3 and half more months and we have really only been to 3 places. We just keep stopping and forgetting to start again. Melbourne has been great and will actually be hard to leave. If it wasn't for our torturous job I am sure we would stay even longer but the job is seriously getting to my head. I stop appreciating the fact that I am in Australia and having the greatest trip sometimes after a long day at work, and our time here is too limited to stay at a job I am not happy with. Sure makes me appreciate teaching!
Anyway, we are leaving Melbourne on March 10th, 12 days away. So that means only 5 more days of work for us(and I will have to say goodbye to my hot, and rich, boss). We are flying to New Zealand from here and staying there until the 26th. We fly to Christchurch, which is on the south island and supposedly breathtaking. Its where Lord of the Rings and Narnia were filmed. I can't wait! We have nothing planned yet, but we will spend some of our last few days here doing that(or maybe really slack of at work and do it there). After NZ we fly to Cairns(pronounced Cannes, like in France. And on that note, you don't actually pronounce the r in Melbourne either. Its said more like Mel-bin, although I can't really say it right. But with our accents people find it endearing...haha). Cairns is up north, still on the east coast. From Cairns we eventually work our way back down to Sydney by June 1oth to fly home! Its all going by so quickly. I have bearly blinked and our time in Melbourne is almost up. We have made a lot of good friends here and its always sad to go, but there is a time for everything. If Melbourne was a city in Canada I would definitely love to live there. Its an amazing city with everything you could ask for. The weather here reminds me of our weather in the summer.
I don't really know what to write about as to what we have done in our time off here. A lot of social outings with the work crew and the next day spent in bed, some good nights hanging out at our hostel, but unfortunately most of the really fun people have left. We go to the night market every Weds. after work for good eats, shopping and music, and lots more. We went to St.Kilda fest one Sunday and didn't make it to work the next day! Its a huge street party with lots of music and a little bit of everything else really. We ended it with Emily, our good friend from London and her group of Columbian friends salsa dancing til the wee hours. It was so much fun, but I sure am bad at salsa! That was the same weekend we had 'food poisoning'. We called in sick on a Friday with food poisoning from bad hamburgers. We didnt' really have it but they sure think that we did at work. We just couldn't bear to spend another nice day cooped up harassing people on the phones so we went to the pool and had a lovely day! We also went to Edithvale beach that Saturday, a really nice beach about 45 minutes out of the city.
We have really lived it up here but its time to go. We are going to go broke instead of having a nice nest egg when we leave if we keep trying to keep up with the Jones at work every weekend. Our work friends are all our bosses, consultants and the administrative staff and we sometimes forget that we are backpackers when out on the town with them! They are great friends and take care of us well though. Can't ask for better people to work for.
Must sign off though. Miss everyone so much! XOXO
